Udaipur City Palace
The splendid City Palace of Udaipur is one of the most beautiful structures of the city. It overlooks the fascinating Lake Pichola and was originally built by Mahrana Uday Singh II. The unique aspect of this complex is that its architectural design which is a rich blend of Rajasthani, Mughal, Medieval, European and Chinese Architecture is extremely eye catching.Key destinations in City Palace
Amar Vilas - Amar Vilas is the highest point of the City palace. It has wonderful hanging gardens with fountains, towers and terraces.
Badi Mahal - Also known as Garden Palace, Badi Mahal is the exotic central garden palace of City palace. It is situated on a 27 M high natural rock formation.
Durbar Hall - Built within the Fatepraksh Palace, the Durbar Hall was used by the royal ladies to observe the court proceedings. It has some unusually large chandeliers and weapons of the Maharajas.
Fatehprakash Palace - This is now run as luxury hotel and is inaccessible to public viewing.
Jagadish Temple - Located 150 M North of the City palace, Jagadish temple is an Indo-Aryan architectural style temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
Krishna Vilas - This is another chamber in Fatehprakash Palace. It has rich collection of paintings that portray royal lifestyle.
Manak Mahal - This palace has a raised alcove inlaid completely made up of mirror glass.
Mor Chowk or Pecock Sqaure - This structure is a pillared hall with glass and mirror mosaic decorations. There is an adjoining chamber, called the Kanch-ki-Burj that has mosaic of mirrors adorning the walls. The Badi Charur Chowk, another building within this chowk, is a smaller court for private use.
Zenana Mahal or Women's Palace - The Zenana Mahal or women's quarters is an exquisitely designed building with alcoves, balconies, colored windows, tiled walls and beautiful floors.
Rang Bhawan - This was the palace which used to contain royal treasure. There are temples of Lord Krishna, Meerabai and Lord Shiva, located here.
Sheesh Mahal - The palace of mirrors and glasses is a shrine of Dhuni Mata. It is located in the complex of City Palace.
